SUMMARY:Accessory Dwelling Unit Competition
DESCRIPTION:AIA Blue Ridge and the City of Roanoke are partnering to increase public awareness of Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) and encourage the implementation of ADU-supportive policies. AIA Blue Ridge and the City of Roanoke were awarded a 2023 AARP Community Challenge Grant to host a design competition for accessory dwelling unit design in order to have pre-approved ADU plans for the public to use free of charge\, making the creation of ADUs more attainable for the everyone within the community. \nSubmissions will be accepted between September 1st and 30th. The competition is open to all within the design\, construction\, and development field including design professionals\, building contractors\, architecture students\, and developers. \nAwards:\nWinners will be announced and notified by October 16\, 2023. The winning teams will be awarded the following to produce construction documents of their designs: \n1ST PLACE: $5\,000\n2ND PLACE: $3\,000\n3RD PLACE: $2\,000

Celebrate the tremendous designs by architects in the region and the winning projects in a virtual awards presentation on August 19 at 7:00p on the chapter’s YouTube channel. All the award submissions from this year are a wonderful representation of the skill and talent of our members and will be released by category one week in advance of the awards on August 12 at 7 p.m. \nThe jury\, from AIA Kansas City\, will be working diligently on July 23 to review the broad array of submissions and select Awards of Excellence\, Awards of Merit\, and Jurors’ Citations. \nThere will be no registration or fee for the virtual awards celebration.

SUMMARY:Travel Sketches Deadline
DESCRIPTION:Architects and architecture students in the Northern Virginia area are invited to submit up to 3 travel sketches which will be juried by professional artists from the Torpedo Factory Arts Center \nSketches are to be submitted in electronic format as a JPEG\, in color or black & white\, and with a maximum file size of 5MB for each image. \nSubmissions are to be emailed to AIA Northern Virginia at sketch@aianova.org by 5:00p on Friday\, April 30. Files are to be named using the following format:\n“First name_last name_sketch number.jpg” (example: john_smith_01.jpg) \nAward categories and the total number of awards will be determined at the discretion of the jurors. Award-winning sketches selected by the jurors will be featured on the AIA Northern Virginia website. All submitted sketches will be retained for presentation at future chapter events as a demonstration of the artist talent of architects in our area. Sketches will not be used individually without credit to the artist and will only be used by AIA Northern Virginia for non-commercial purposes. Submission of sketches to this juried competition indicates agreement with terms as indicated.
