SUMMARY:Fenestration’s Role in Resilient Design
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Loewen Windows and Doors \nThis course will explore the growing importance of resilient building design as a result of accelerating climate change and extreme weather events.\nWe will discuss resilient design principles and fenestration’s role in resilient design\, including; the importance of building product durability\, energy efficiency\, storm and hurricane protection\, and how simple\, passive\, and flexible systems are more resilient.\nThe course will also explore the future of fenestration and emerging window technologies that will be able to respond to climate and weather concerns as well as occupant preferences. \nAIA LU | HSW \nRegister>> \nLearning Objectives:\n1. Analyze the importance of resilient design and how to apply resilient design principles in the built environment.\n2. Examine fenestration’s role in resilient design and considerations for specifying highly durable and energy-efficient products.\n3. Identify high-performance windows and door products that should be considered when designing for resiliency.\n4. Explore the future of fenestration and emerging window technologies that can respond to climate and occupant preferences. \nPresented by Diane Van Horn\, CSI\, CDT\nLoewen Windows and Doors\, Senior Architectural Territory Manager \nProvider: Loewen Windows and Doors\nCourse Code: RESDES23LOE

SUMMARY:High Performing Resilient Wood Framed Roofs
DESCRIPTION:This course provides an overview and discussion of resilient construction methods related to roof construction. We start by defining resiliency as a design objective\, then investigate the financial ramifications of natural disasters on structures not designed with resiliency in mind. We describe numerous programs that promote resilient construction in the US\, including a program designed to provide insurance discounts to homeowners that build to resilient standards. Finally\, the program describes the construction techniques that qualify as resilient practices and provides a financial comparison of the costs of these practices. \nAs a result of participating in this presentation\, attendees will be equipped to: \n\nIdentify and recognize the natural environmental forces that affect the design considerations of wood-framed roof systems.\nAssess the advantages and disadvantages of resilient vs. non-resilient design.\nCompare and contrast the performance characteristics of the components of a wood-framed roof system.\nProvide best practice solutions for resilient design of wood-framed roofs.\n\nEarn 1.0 AIA LU | HSW \nRegister online. \nPresented in collaboration with Huber Engineered Woods.
