SUMMARY:Virtual Scavenger Hunt of Downtown Norfolk
DESCRIPTION:In celebration of National Historic Preservation Month\, The Hampton Roads Chapter of the AIA invites you to explore the rich architectural heritage of Downtown Norfolk\, Virginia\, from the comfort of your own home with their FIRST EVER Virtual Scavenger Hunt! \nRedevelopment has radically changed the face of Downtown Norfolk since the 1960s with much of the area falling to the wrecking ball. But\, within the boundaries of the Downtown Historic District and the East Freemason Historic District\, there are extraordinary examples of period architecture\, detailing and craftsmanship on hundreds of historic structures. \nAIA Hampton Roads has identified 18 unique details on 18 different buildings. Your challenge\, if you choose to accept\, is to identify the architectural detail (e.g. a cartouche\, gorgon\, or gargoyle) and the building on which it is found (either by building name\, address or descriptive location such as “the corner of Main and Granby Streets”). \nLearn more>> \nVisit aiahr.org for the Scavenger Hunt Documents \nSubmit your completed Official Entry Form as a PDF by email to Greg Rutledge by 5 p.m. EDT May 31\, 2020. Three fantastic prizes will be awarded (by random drawing) to completed entry forms submitted by the deadline. You may enter as an individual\, family\, firm or team. If entering as a family\, firm\, or team please provide your team name and one point of contact on the entry form. \nIf you have any questions or need assistance with any of the files please contact Greg Rutledge at grutledge@hewv.com and Lisa Jolley at ljolley@hewv.com. \n* This event has been designed to be experienced virtually. AIA Hampton Roads does not encourage anyone to abandon social distancing and health precautions during the pandemic by physically going downtown\, but they do hope that once we can all be out and about again\, you will visit downtown and experience these wonderful buildings and details in person.

SUMMARY:Designing for Health
DESCRIPTION:Workplace and Sustainability have found common ground in the last 5 years. As sustainable design becomes more common and prescribed in building codes there is a restorative approach emerging on how buildings\, and essentially the built environment\, is shifting the conversation and design focus to health and well-being. Health and well-being is becoming a prominent part of the workplace design conversation. This forum will present the important evolving topic\, including what public health research has to do with office design\, what the big deal is with biophilia and how furniture and finish selection relate to the WELL Building Standard and Cognitive Health. \nIt is approved as a Health Safety and Welfare CEU by AIA and IDCEC. \nRegister online.
