SUMMARY:Creating Integrated Spaces for Wellbeing using Folding\, Multi Slide and Swing Door Wall Systems
DESCRIPTION:Presented by T.W. Perry \nFree. Virtual.\n1 AIA LU|HSW \nDescription:\nIntegrating interior and exterior spaces has been shown to provide occupants with myriad benefits in a variety of settings. Establishing a connection with the outdoors can improve health and wellbeing for occupants at home or in the office\, as well as encouraging healing and reducing stress. In retail settings\, connections with nature have been shown to increase consumer spending\, and in any environment\, views and sounds of nature have proven to reduce stress and enhance concentration. Folding\, multi slide\, and swing door systems lend themselves to occupant wellbeing by integrating interior and exterior spaces and seamlessly providing controllable access to nature. \nRegister>> \nLearning Objectives:\n1. Analyze the ways in which the human connection to nature and integrated interior and exterior spaces can contribute to occupant wellbeing\, including the roles of light\, color\, air\, and sound.\n2. Assess the applications and material selection of folding\, multi slide\, and swing door wall systems and the ways in which they contribute to the human connection to nature and integrated spaces\, including when designing for residential\, restaurants\, retail\, resort\, hospitality\, and institutional applications.\n3. Understand the style\, function\, and performance of folding\, multi slide\, and swing door wall systems.\n4. Examine case studies that exemplify the role of door systems in connecting people to the outdoors and creating integrated interior and exterior spaces.

SUMMARY:Fenestration Installation for High Performance Residential Building Envelopes
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Loewen Windows of Mid-Atlantic \nFree. Virtual.\n1 AIA LU|HSW \nImproper design and/or non-conforming application of building envelope materials has been demonstrated to cause premature building envelope failure. Architects may specify premium materials\, but shortcuts and errors in the final installation can impact budgets\, time frames\, building life span\, and increase legal liabilities. As one of the elements that bisect the interior/exterior plane\, window and door integrations are a critical element of the building envelope as a whole. Poor installations can carry significant liability\, due to building envelope failure. This course will review the components of a building envelope\, their role in managing air and moisture infiltration\, how windows and doors factor into this equation\, and general installation processes for high performance residential fenestration. \nRegister>> \n\n\n\nLearning objectives:\n1. Identify the goals of the residential building envelope\, including managing the flow of air and moisture infiltration.\n2. Discuss the importance of properly designed and applied residential building envelopes\, particularly the wall systems.\n3. Examine the critical role of window and door installation in the overall residential building envelope.\n4. Review general installation recommendations for high performance residential windows and doors. \nProvider name: Loewen Windows\nProvider number: J718\nCourse code: LOEHPBENV21

SUMMARY:Large Doors: How to Select the Right Door
DESCRIPTION:Offered and presented by T.W. Perry \n1 AIA LU|HSW.\nFree. Virtual. \nREGISTER >>> \nModern design trends are favoring larger openings\, and while this blank canvas offers the architect a wide-range of options\, it can also pose a challenge. Because of almost unlimited variations of different types\, styles\, and available options for large doors\, it is often more important that the architect understands how to make the selection process\, rather than which specific door to choose. The process for specifying should include client aesthetic expectations\, environmental conditions\, building performance\, and durability concerns. \nLearning Objectives:\nUnderstand the unique design elements of an indoor/outdoor living space and modern trends in large doors.\nDescribe what to consider when balancing client needs with environmental conditions\, building performance\, and durability concerns.\nList the different door types and styles available for transition points between indoor and outdoor areas.\nDiscuss the best process for specifying large doors in commercial and residential projects. \nContact:\nKen Clark\, T.W.
