Lightweight Building Skins

The course outlines a brief history of lightweight construction with an introductory look at the new materials and the digital advances which make this technology compelling today.   It covers when to use this type of construction and provides definition of key components while addressing structure, form, and climate.   Issues affecting the growing use of these technologies and materials in façade design are considered.   Further, the design process is described from idea generation to problem solving.  Finally, we look at the future of this technology and discuss its advantages in building today.
