What Style Is It? The Architecture of the West Freemason Street Historic District

April 14, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

Join the Norfolk Historical Society and architect Greg Rutledge on a virtual tour through the cobbled streets and brick sidewalks of Norfolk’s oldest suburb. The West Freemason Street Historic District is located just west of Downtown Norfolk along the Elizabeth River. Within this compact district of roughly 14 city blocks, there are significant examples of period architecture from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries, making the district a three-dimensional architectural textbook that offers a unique glimpse into Norfolk’s history. The West Freemason Street Historic District was the first of Norfolk’s historic districts to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places (1972).
