Huntley Speaks Architectural Tour

How does Historic Huntley’s architecture connect to America’s hard-won independence? Who designed it and for what purpose? Join a historical guide on a walking tour of this Federal style villa and related outbuildings to discover how architecture from the past speaks to us today. Historic Huntley is operated by the Fairfax County Park Authority and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Virginia Landmarks Register, and the Fairfax County Inventory of Historic Sites. Registration required by April 16.

Historic Waterford Foundation Walking Tour – Black History Sites

Organized by the Historic Waterford Foundation, this in-person walking tour will focus on the history and architecture of the village of Waterford, focusing on Black History Sites. Waterford was within the part of Loudoun County known as the Underground Railroad route. It was also a haven for free Blacks. Settled by Quakers, the village offered more opportunities for African Americans than most other places in the south. The town has many other well preserved homes and workplaces where free and enslaved African Americans lived and worked. Open to the public.

Boxville – Creating a Just World

Join AIA Northern Virginia and The Northern Virginia Fine Arts Association at the Athenaeum for a jointly held virtual event on the award-winning short film Boxville: Creating a Just World. The film was awarded third place in the 2020 AIA Film Challenge. You will hear directly from the film-maker Asia Taylor and the president of the Boxville Association about the importance of this project to the Chicago neighborhood it serves. Online, free, and open to the public.

Historic Waterford Foundation Walking Tour

Organized by the Historic Waterford Foundation, this in-person walking tour will focus on the history and architecture of the village of Waterford over time. The town has an extraordinary collection of original 18th- and 19th-century buildings. Due to the high degree of integrity, the village is designated as a National Historic Landmark District. Open to the public.
