Each year the AIA Northern Virginia Young Architects Forum organizes seminars for those preparing to take the Architect Registration Exam® (ARE®). The award-winning seminars offer the opportunity to learn from a professional in each discipline and use that knowledge in preparation for the ARE®. All sessions offer AIA Continuing Education credits.

Advance registration is required and all sessions will be held virtually until further notice. Information on seminar access will be sent the day prior to each seminar.

The registration fee for an individual session is $50 for AIA members; $75 for non-members.

Cancellation requests must be received by email (via aianova@aianova.org) no later than 5:00p on the Tuesday directly prior to the seminar. Class materials from any refunded session will not be provided. Additional missed sessions will not be refunded, but will entitle attendees to receive any pre-/post-session class materials which the instructors may decide to make available.

Women in Architecture Workshop: Part 3 – Storytelling For Your Brands

The WIA annual Workshop/Lecture Series is here! Women in Architecture Lecture Series is an annual 3-part interactive workshop session. This year, learn the ins and outs of branding. The series will answer four big branding questions: what is it, why do I care, how do I brand myself/my business, and how will my brand actually support my career goals?

Telling the story of a brand is just as important as the brand itself. Through coaching and practice exercises, attendees will explore and assess ways to tell the story of their brand, whether personal or company in a way that is meaningful and makes an impact. Participants will review how storytelling connects people and ideas and how those connections can amplify and connect their brand to the desired target of either potential employers’ clients.

Learning Objectives
1. Demonstrate how to use storytelling to connect with people while communicating the value of your brand(s).
2. Identify what digital platforms are best suited for your story to be told and to reach your target audience.
3. Review how to use, prioritize and leverage communication channels to promote your brand(s).
4. Determine how storytelling can give a better perspective of your brand, combat imposter syndrome and help develop confidence.
5. Practice storytelling of yourself, your company, and others, this can advocate for success for oneself and others.

The WIA annual Workshop/Lecture Series is here! Women in Architecture Lecture Series is an annual 3-part interactive workshop session. This year, learn the ins and outs of branding. The series will answer four big branding questions: what is it, why do I care, how do I brand myself/my business, and how will my brand actually support my career goals?

Through brand exploration and an analysis of market perception, participants will discover how to create a strong company brand. Attendees will be guided through the development process with case studies and a series of exercises. By developing a brand pyramid, statement, and guide, they will learn how to effectively curate their company’s brand and convey it in a way that has the potential to positively influence the market’s perception.

Learning Objectives
1. Discuss the basic principles of effective branding strategies to create a unique identity and a product/service that resonate with potential clients.
2. Explore how to create a company brand that defines what you do and how you do it.
3. Analyze existing company brands and discuss their effectiveness and identify opportunities for improvement.
4. Review how to prioritize and maintain your company brand to align with your work and target clients.
5. Create a Brand Pyramid, a Brand Statement and a Brand Guide.

The remaining session will take place on June 15 from 6:00-7:30pm.

Workshop 1: Branding Yourself

By clearly understanding what a brand is and each of the parts that must work together to make it cohesive, attendees will explore how to build an individual brand. With the creation of a mood board, participants will learn how their brand helps to define who they are, what is important to them and how the brand impacts their work. Through case studies and a series of exercises, they will also learn how to prioritize the channels to communicate their brand and how to maintain it.

Learning Objectives
1. Discuss and understand the basic principles of personal branding strategies to create a unique identity that resonates with employers.
2. Determine how to create a brand that defines who you are and how that can contribute to your job and work relations.
3. Analyze existing individual brands and discuss their effectiveness and identify opportunities for improvement.
4. Discover how to prioritize and maintain your personal brand to align with your work and who you are.

Sessions in this 3-part series will take place April 20, May 18, and June 15 from 6:00-7:30pm.
